La Paz Teleférico (cable car) system with a number of “lines” covering much of the city. Built to alleviate some of the congestion and pollution issues facing the city centre, each car taking at least 8 people and cars on each line leaving every 12 seconds must have a significant rediction on vehicles commuting to the city centre.
A bit like the London Underground but (litterally) above ground. Each line is named by a colour.
Travel on a line costs 3 Bs (£0.35). A return ticket is just two single tickets.
For somebody visiting La Paz the system gives some fabulous views of the city. But the “Red Line” up to El Alto must be one of the first to be built and its cars’ windows are now rather scratched. Still has amazing biews but more limited for taking pictures. However, the “Orange Line” whose city centre station is only 100 m from that for the Red Line, has newer cars with windows in better condition and also provides amazing views of the city.
