Yesterday was apparently the hottest day ever in the Netherlands (though I suspect they mean hottest since records began, but still hot). Today is expected to be hotter so I thought it best to make an early start to complete my ride before things got difficult.
I decided to head south east to a town called Ede, but taking a nicer non-direct route. Initially through the centre of Hilversum, but at 06:00 am no traffic so it was pretty straightforward. Then into the mist, at times fog which gradually cleared. Cycling up on the dykes a lot of midges, clouds of them. Non-biting ones but they get everywhere.
A good ride, mainly through countryside. Quite warm but not too hot to cause any problems.
Cycling through one town and they had a harbour and a marina. Marina full of fibreglass but the harbour was full of dutch barges, all similar enough to look like they are the same class and many with people staying on-board.
Tonight camping at a tiny campground a couple of miles north of Ede. I think they have 10 pitches. When I arrived there was much discussion (in Dutch) about the best place for me to stay and I ended-up in their garden beside a caravan they use as a spare bedroom for when family stay.
Hilversum to Ede
Today 49 miles miles (77 Km).
